3D Animal Series (2022-23)
Apolo's ceaseless curiosity and love for animals are perhaps the most pervasive theme in his life. As a young boy he would spend endless hours watching how spiders spin their webs. Through observation and research he would know which spiders would make their homes nightly, begin at what time, and only wrap it up by morning. He would know how fast a cobra strikes to attack its prey, and countless other minute details. In his youth, he kept many unusual pets, collected scorpions and hunted spiders in caves for spiders, locally known as "kaka " for fighting events.
Up to now, he is ever so amazed at how animals are designed, from the wing span of the Brahminy kites that glide through our veranda, to the mysterious mythical mixed creatures that grace many tales and legends with boundless possibilities. Together with his skills in metalworks he mustered this enthusiasm to create art that stirs our hearts and minds through seemlingly lifeless materials.
